  • The number to the Adolescent Unit nursing station is (303)-666-2032.

Arrival on the Unit

  • When your child arrives on the adolescent unit, a staff member will go through their belongings and do a thorough search of their clothing including any pockets.  This ensures that safety on the unit is maintained.
  • Your child should bring only a minimal amount of clothing. Adolescents are allowed only two pairs of pants and two shirts in their  room. Girls’ bras should be sports bras or other bras without wire inserts. A pair of rubber soled shoes will provide safety in the gym.  We do not allow shoelaces on the unit. There are a washer and dryer available.
  • Our rooms are designed for two-person occupancy.
  • It is recommended that valuables be sent home with a family member.  If this is not possible, your child may keep valuables in a bin which unit staff can access for them upon request. All belongings will be documented as they are brought in to ensure their safe return upon discharge. You may give your child a small amount of money (quarters or $1 bills) for use at the soda and candy machines.  As the patient moves up in "levels," gaining more privileges they will be granted access to these machines. Please do not bring electronics  or cell phones as these are prohibited on the unit.
  • Please check your child's clothing and be aware that items with strings, glass, metal, spikes, certain zippers and/ or any other unsafe characteristics will be sent home in order to ensure the safety of all the patients on the unit. Make-up is not permitted on the Adolescent unit for safety, hygiene and therapeutic reasons. Lotions and hair products will be permitted according to staff discretion and dependent upon the ingredients they contain.

Visiting Hours and Guidelines

  • Adolescent visiting hours are held Monday - Friday from 6:00-7:00pm and Saturday - Sunday from 9:30– 11:30am.
  • Visitation is restricted to parents only. If the patient would like a step-parent to visit and the step-parent is part of the immediate family, this will be allowed. Guardians with whom the patient resides, may visit as guardians are defined as legal, court-ordered adults who serve as a parent. Social services caseworkers, guardians ad litem, probation officers, etc. may visit as appropriate.  Clergy may visit, but only as approved by the parent. The length of stay on the unit is generally under five days. We feel that patients need to spend valuable time talking with their parents during visitation in order to work on clinical issues. There may be an unusual or unforeseen family concern that requires an exception to this visitation policy. The social worker should be notified of the particular issues during business hours so that any changes or exceptions may be made before the time of visitation.
  • We ask that siblings, extended family members and friends not visit for the short time the patient is in the hospital.
  • During visiting time, we ask that there be no more than two visitors per patient at one time. All visiting must take place within staff sight.
  • All personal items brought in at visiting time must first be checked by staff. Patients who have achieved levels two and three privileges may have food and beverage items brought to be consumed during visiting hours.
  • Caffeinated beverages will not be allowed due to possible medication interactions. Please do not bring glass items or pop cans onto the unit. If at all possible, bring plastic bottles (including soda containers).  Plants or flowers must be in a plastic container.

Groups and Meetings

  • A family support group is held weekly in the cafeteria for family members who are actively involved in your child’s treatment. This  group will be held in the dining room from 7:00 to 7:45pm on Tuesday evenings and is run by a licensed therapist. Family members are strongly encouraged to attend.
  • Within the first 24 hours, you will be contacted to set a time for a family meeting which should occur within the first 48-hours after admission to the hospital. The purpose of the meeting will be threefold:  to gather background and history information for the treatment team, to answer questions the family may have about treatment and to create a plan for aftercare.

Scheduled Phone Times

We request that phone calls be made primarily to parents during the shifts listed below. On admission, the parent/guardian will be asked to complete a phone list with essential phone numbers so that we may reach individuals involved in the patient's care.

Day Shift
7:30-9:15am daily

Evening Shift
6-7pm evenings

Parents may always call the nursing station at (303) 666-2032 with questions or concerns.

Discharge Planning

Discharge planning is a very important part of our treatment process at Centennial Peaks Hospital. In order to create a smooth transition after hospitalization, we begin working on discharge planning at the time of admission. Your cooperation and participation is vital to making this process successful.

The discharge planning process includes:

  • Arranging aftercare with a physician or clinical nurse specialist for medication management. We can provide a referral but the patient must schedule the appointment and attend the session(s).
  • Arranging aftercare with a therapist for continued outpatient counseling. We can provide a referral and schedule a first appointment but the patient must be responsible for keeping this appointment.
  • Providing referrals to support groups - aftercare and/or 12-step groups.
  • Choosing a safe environment for the patient to go following discharge.
  • At the time of discharge the patient and a support person - parent, spouse, family member or friend - will meet with the Aftercare Coordinator in order to discuss the patient’s discharge plan.

If the patient is an adolescent:

  • A parent or guardian must be present at this meeting.
  • A Centennial Peaks staff person will schedule this meeting with the patient’s parent or guardian.

If the patient is an adult:

  • The Centennial Peaks staff person will schedule the discharge meeting with the patient.
  • The patient will contact the support person(s) to arrange their attendance.
Should you have further questions, the Aftercare Coordinator may be reached at (303) 666-2092.

What can patients bring to Centennial Peaks?

Please facilitate the process of patient care by reviewing and adhering to the following guidelines about what to bring and what not to bring to the hospital.

All items must be checked in by staff.  Please give bags or items to staff when you arrive on the unit.  If you are bringing items to a patient please   DO NOT GIVE ITEMS DIRECTLY TO THE PATIENT.

1.  Safety
In order to maintain a safe environment for all patients please do not bring the following items:

  • Glass  items
  • Lighters/ matches
  • Knives or sharp items of any kind
  • Needles/ pins
  • Belts
  • Shoes with laces
  • Clothing with strings (such as sweatshirts)
  • Wire hangers
  • Scissors
  • Electric appliances
  • Dental floss or Q-tips
  • Razors
  • Aerosol Cans/ hairspray
  • Weapons
  • Alcohol or products listing alcohol in the first three ingredients (such as mouthwash)

The hospital is happy to provide toiletry items such as shampoo, toothpaste and deodorant.  When in doubt, please ask a staff person and feel free to call us at (303) 673-9990 with questions.

2.  Security/Valuables
THE HOSPITAL CANNOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR VALUABLES BROUGHT INTO THE BUILDING.  We strongly discourage patients bringing large amounts of cash, credit cards, jewelry or other valuable items to the hospital.  Family members may assist the patient by taking such items home.  We do not allow the use of cell phones, laptops or other electronic devices on the unit.

3.  Medications
Patients’ personal medications brought to hospital must be given immediately to a nurse on the unit. We are able to provide most medications through our pharmacy but information about which medications our patients have been taking (along with dosages) is extremely helpful and appreciated. If a patient is taking a medication that we do not stock in our pharmacy, we will keep it in our      medication room and obtain a physician’s order to dispense it.

4.  Amounts of Items
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT STORAGE SPACE ON OUR UNIT IS EXTREMELY LIMITED AND THAT HOSPITAL STAYS ARE BRIEF!  Patients will usually need only a few changes of comfortable clothing while on the unit. Please help us by bringing very few personal items.

5.  Purses and Bags Belonging to Visitors
If you are visiting a patient, please leave purses, backpacks and other bags in your vehicle. Please do not bring them onto the unit with you.

6.  Other Issues
Food:  You may bring food during visiting hours but it must be consumed during the visit.  We cannot store food for patients on the unit due to health code regulations. The hospital provides three meals and several snacks to patients daily.
Cigarettes:  Adult patients may keep cigarettes with them.  Staff will provide a lighter during specified smoke times.

Questions?  Feel free to ask a staff person!
